Jake Paul believes he will continue to build his career as a professional boxer on Sunday when he takes on former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in Cleveland. Paul, a social media superstar, is struggling with a 4-0 result against Woodley, who is making his professional boxing debut.

The fight is expected to be the biggest challenge of Paul’s career after defeating a (former) social media agent NBA star and one of Woodley’s friends, former UFC fighter Ben Askren. While Paul was doing Askre’s light work, Woodley is a much more dangerous striker, having received significant knockouts in his UFC career.

“When I started boxing, I didn’t think I would be so fast. My original goal was to fight Conor McGregor or Floyd Mayweather, because I knew I would have a big enough draw for every paycheck to do those things. Now I want to become world champion. It’s good, ”Paul said at the last press conference.

Woodley left Robbie Lawler in power in 2016 to win the 170-pound title before making four straight belt defenses against stiff competition. The opportunity that led to this opportunity was a complicated one. Woodley lost his last four fights in the UFC, appearing very passive on three occasions before breaking his last appearance in March and stopping in the first round. “He hasn’t shown me anything yet. Real recognize Real. I don’t care what anyone outside says. I’m worried about doing that action,” Woodley said at a recent press conference. “I’m going crazy on Sunday. At the end of the day, it’s been a long time. I’m grateful to my team for their help, but I’m also grateful to everyone who counted me away. When everyone opposes you, it shows the strength of what you’re going to do.”

The other four fights fill the rest of the main card on Sunday night. Throwing things will be a potential future opponent for Paul as Tommy Fury. WBC is the younger half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who became famous in the British reality TV series “Love Island”. Fury is 6-0 with four playoffs so far, a career-high pick and a tough favorite to beat Anthony Taylor. In addition, Amanda Serrano, the joint female featherweight champion, returned with the Yamileth Mercado team for the main event. The heavyweight Daniel Dubois is set to make his US debut in a major play alongside Joe Cusumano.

Also, Ivan Baranchyk, just out of the 2020 Wrestling of the Year, will return to the ring when Montana Love takes on a weightlifting competition.

Brian Campbell: Woodley represents by far the most difficult challenge of Paul’s short career as a professional, which is that he continues to struggle to win with the playoffs, seemingly at any time. Paul has tremendous physical advantages in spending much more time than he has devoted to boxing than Woodley, who has certainly trained for more time, but in a context where he has to worry about shots, removals and submissions. Striking MMA is not boxing and that matters. Woodley has the power, but it’s still been more than five years since he got the playoffs in MMA, facing smaller opponents and wearing smaller gloves. In the last fight in the UFC, Woodley managed to show his life in an offensive way, trying to bring the fight to Vicente Luque before he came out and finished in the first round. If Woodley doesn’t bring the same level of pressure against Paul and back to his worst instincts to passively pass after him, trying to get past a single right time, this fight won’t be the test they think the most.
