The Kremlin has said it hopes the United States will try to “hold on” to Russia after a summit of its leaders, and that it is important for both powers to be pragmatic about new US sanctions.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on Monday that U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told CNN and one day Washington was preparing more sanctions in connection with the poisoning of Kremlin critic Alexey Navalny.

Peskov told reporters that Moscow was aware of possible US sanctions.
