So much design trends the ones that come and go (they come in one day, they come out the next!), there’s a style that doesn’t surprise and delight: all the white interior design. In fact, in recent years our room has become a white room, a classic but invigorating space, case by case, Camille’s layered belt and milk-colored living room! Of course, this peeled look can quickly become a smooth, barren territory if we quickly forget about some key design principles, which is why we turned to the master of white interiors. Leanne Ford.
A wonderful and fresh designer (starring in HGTV Restored by Ford his brother, a series with Steve), has been called the white weapon of his secret weapon and it can be said for sure that “white on white” has now become his aesthetic signature – have you seen Crate & Barrel collection? But what makes this style so powerful? “I think they are failures, “Ford wrote in an email.” It’s easy to win by designing any home style. ”
There is no single rule for decorating a colorless interior rules: “live a little!” he says. We couldn’t agree more, but if, like us, you need a little more direction than that, keep reading Ford’s nine main tips for decorating a completely rich and warm white interior.

Layer, layer, layer
Ford specializes in decorating neutral homes with rare and rich textures. We needed to know, what is the secret to layering whites and neutrals without being smooth or boring? “Have shades of white and creams live together,” he advises. “Layers of plain clothes and warm cotton next to the beadboard, shiplap, concrete and painted brick to add texture and interest to your eye.”

Mix textures and surface types
Okay, so we know that texture is key, but Ford recommends layering different types of texture and surface to break up a neutral white room. Focus mixing hard textures with soft textures to create contrast and visual interest that will attract the eye.

Find the right white paint
There are and can be 50 shades of white paint so difficult to choose the right one. For Ford, Does it really depend on what kind of house you have – is it traditional or modern? But its white wardrobe has three white colors. “I always come back Shoji Whiite by Sherwin Williams to get a warm and traditional feeling, ”he explains.“ I like to use it PPG Timeless Pure White when looking for anything modern and clean, and finally PPG Natural White to get a natural, earthy and slightly vintage feel ”.

More is Always More
Ford says one of the most common mistakes people make when choosing white paint is “don’t use it anymore!” I think people get nervous and add grays to their homes, but unless your house is gray over gray – grays become filler colors. If you’re going to make it white, do it! ” Take into account.

Warm up
It’s a trick to make a white space warm and invitingdd natural elements. “Always bring the outside,” Ford weighs in. “Materials that will add layer textures, tones and warmth.” Behind this, his best advice is to put all your lights in a darker one. “So during the day, it’s light and crisp and at night, it can be comfortable and moody,” he added.

Your whites don’t match
We’ve been saying for years that it’s important for your whites to disagree, no, but Ford says he does the opportunity he can get. “Keep going,” he says. “The more shades you add, the better it will feel.”

Do not add color
At the moment, you’re probably thinking, but what about color? Surely it needs something to lighten all the white interior design? Maybe some people throw pillows, a rug or artwork? Ford disagrees. “I’d rather not do it, “he said.” Believe me, he’ll show up by himself. “We’ll have to take Ford’s professional word because he clearly knows what he’s doing …his work speaks for itself.

Think Big Picture
After all, you are the key to improving the whole white room! “It doesn’t matter what room he enters, what style he has you they will go, “says Ford. Always think about the overall picture and consider what the main cause is.” It’s about the whole room and not just the painting on the walls, “he continues.” I always ask myself when making design decisions, how will a single option help a greater cause?”

Be brave
Since there are no rules for any white room, Ford would never do one thing in a white space: be shy! “That’s the freedom to have white space, ”he explains.“ You can do anything and it works! ”So don’t be shy, take that white paint, mix those textures, don’t match them with your tones and most of all have fun !
