What relationship did you have growing up with beauty?
I never fit in with the traditional Korean ideal of beauty, which is to be very thin and delicate with a small face and light color. Being A was also ideal double eyelid – where there is a wrinkle on the upper eyelid. Western ideals were already embedded in Korean ideals as children. There is also the Korean word – Chakeh 착해 – a word that is good, obedient and does not cause problems. I tried very hard to be chakeh, but that wasn’t me, and I continue with that. So somehow, very early on, I took the message that I wasn’t beautiful. I took it so early that I am now finding my wild part that I am not fulfilling. I’ve been taught that a good girl always gives in to others and that she never shows “ugly” emotions like anger or is forbidden by God, which is unpleasant. I always felt like I was too selfish for the “real”, but now I know that’s nonsense. It makes me excited to see who I really am.

For working with you and being in front of your lens I have seen how great you are to make people beautiful and seen. What has your photography career taught you about beauty and how to find it?
I have realized that every person is beautiful. It sounds awful, but at the moment I’ve learned to find my own beauty with each person. I’m also very curious with people! I want to know who they are. I don’t want to take a picture of them and walk away.

I remember you said you felt very pretty when you were pregnant. How did getting pregnant change your view of beauty?
I had a very easy pregnancy. My skin shone and my hair thickened. I had a greater awareness of my body than ever before and I realized how wonderful it is. In chiropractic, they say that your body is always trying to go in the right divine order. For the first time, I felt that. My body wasn’t that ugly thing anymore. I was a growing man!

These changes in your mind after you had your baby, Coro?
Yes. Even though it’s a dog that surpasses the C-section scar, and the chest is different after breastfeeding, it doesn’t bother me. I’ve received everything about my physical appearance all my life, and those thoughts still arise, but I don’t have time for that.

Do you have a skin care routine in the morning?
I wiped my face . It’s the only cleanser that really removes eye makeup and makes your skin feel smooth and clean. I will use it later Marble and Milkweed forest face tonic. It makes my face feel smooth and calm. My friend Briar does it with pretty organic ingredients. If I feel dry, I’m going to throw some slaps , and then I put the sunscreen on the street.

And at night?
I do the same cleanser, and then I apply it , which makes the small bumps on your skin feel smoother and smoother.

What do you like about makeup?
I use In the light. I feel naked on my eyebrows unless I draw and use them on my eyebrows In the so-called Natural Black, which is sadly interrupted. It’s an Asian black tone, it’s the exact color of my hair. Then I apply a thick base of eye shadow – I like it Lush Raven by L’Oreal. Then I add bright black. If it’s a special special event, I’ll curl my eyelashes and put on a mask.

And for the lips?
I like to wear a lip brush, and it’s my favorite . It’s the perfect orange-red. Day in and day out, I use tinted lip balm Face Shop in a soft pink. It’s beautiful because it gives your lips a natural pink glow. It looks like you’re wearing nothing at all.

How to take care of your hair?
The key for me is to get a great cut at Pelo Salon. My stylist Luisa has been cutting her hair for the last 15 years! She is very good at her job, not only her hair, but also taking care of people. It’s special. I use Shampoo failure because I love the way I smell and most of the time I let my hair dry because I’m with the baby.

Do you have any fun hobbies?
Traveling! Pre-pandemic and pre-baby, I traveled a lot. Being outdoors (hiking, camping, snowboarding, etc.) is what I enjoy the most. My dear customer, AJWS, a human rights organization, works in 18 different countries around the world, and I have had the great fortune to travel with them to many of these places to document their work. The people I have met through these experiences have broadened my worldview and opened my heart.

Do you have a philosophy of beauty?
I see a 13 month old daughter and there is no doubt that she is beautiful or not beautiful. It’s just. He is always in her body, in the moment, sure, strong. It’s completely natural, and it still doesn’t put all the conditions in place. Beauty is about returning to that natural state, being aware of your thoughts, and realizing that you are more than just your body.
