In 2021, Novak Djokovic lost for the first time. Dan Evans defeated the top tennis player 6-4, 7-5 in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters. Djokovic, who is earning a title at the Australian Open, made his self-criticism understandable against the unclassified British player.

“I don’t want to take anything away from his victory, but for my part I felt terribly on the court,” Djokovic told the Associated Press. “Nothing worked. It’s one of those days.

“He should have done so much better and he could have done it. I can’t get anything positive out of this game.”

Djokovic left the serve five times in the first set with a 3-0 lead in the first set.

Meanwhile, Evans was very calm with what can be described as the best victory of his career.

“It probably hasn’t sunk yet. I couldn’t believe the last ball went off the net. It was barely done,” he said. “It’s clearly a big win. That’s the biggest thing, you have to believe you can win. Serving is not easy, you go through all those things in your head.”
