Roger Federer took out the 2021 French Open on Sunday, citing health concerns as he was recovering from knee surgery. Federer, who is currently ranked 8th in the world, defeated Dominik Koepfer in the third round on Saturday at Rolland Garros. Matteo Berrettini will face No. 9 in the fourth round on Monday.

“After discussing with my team, I have decided that I will have to leave Roland-Garros today,” Federer said in a statement on Sunday. “After two knee surgeries and a year of rehab it’s important to listen to my body and push myself too fast on the road to recovery. I’m glad I got three games under my belt. There’s no greater feeling than returning to the court.”
