Officials say at least eight people have been killed and several others injured in a bomb blast in Mogadishu.

At least eight people have been killed in a car bomb blast in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

“A car bomb struck a convoy, including bulletproof vests on Avisione Street.

“We took eight dead from the scene.”

The Somali National News Agency has reported “unspecified victims”.

A Reuters photographer at the site said the blast damaged four cars and two motor rickshaws.

“I saw five people wrapped in paper bags and covered in iron sheets, their legs visible and then being transported in an ambulance,” Ahmed Nur, a shopkeeper in the area, told Reuters.
