Sony WF-1000XM4 Review: Best Sprouts for Big Ears

The noise cancellation is the same, thanks to Sony’s excellent signal processing and foam ear tips, which adapt to your ears as soon as you put them on. The silence is audible; that is, one of the first times I had to turn on the listening functionality (which expels sound from the outside through headphone microphones) to hear people talking when the music wasn’t playing.

They are basically earplugs of 21st century steroids. Put on and turn on the tunes, and the whole world will disappear. I cover my hair when I wear headphones, and often the bride would talk to me as I wandered from home to get there and lose all words.

Lower frequency sounds such as AHT and jet engines are still emitted, as is partly the case with all noise-canceling headphones. But these sounds are significantly reduced when the volume, music, or podcast is being played when it becomes a whisper.

Headphones are very easy to pair and set up to your liking, thanks to the quick functional pairing for Android and Windows, and the normal pairing with iOS (which is very fast but not immediate). The Sony Headphones app allows you to adjust the EQ, switch from noise cancellation to ambient sound, and turn on the pause function for headset speech, which tells you who is listening to your voice and pausing music when you are talking to your person.

It’s very simple and straightforward in the app, but I don’t like the touch controls. A long touch on the outside of each headset is supposed to turn the ambient sound mode on or off, but half of what I’ve tried to do is just pause my music. Longer hair (especially if wet from a workout) also tends to affect touch controls. I would love to use it if they only had one physical button.

Voice microphones are useful for making calls and Zoom meetings, but I wouldn’t call it a wonderful quality. They have IPX4 water resistance, but they are too big for me in racing. I used them when lifting weights at home, and they worked well.

Audio quality

The WF-1000XM4 bears a strong resemblance to the sounds above the ears. WH-1000XM4 (Yes, it’s a Sony product name this amazing). The headphones have a strong bass end but actually don’t have to go past the bass drivers, the top in the middle of the top and then the highs in the fall.

I really like to add a bit of peak to the app’s EQ headphones, especially for dark jazz recordings like Ahmad Jamal’s. Live in Pershing. When applied to pop voices like Britney Spears ’“ Toxic, ”the high-pitched natural immersion contributes to that harshness you sometimes hear in the high volumes of the early 2000s.

Whatever you’re listening to, the XM4’s ears are remarkably clean and flat, like a lot of Sony’s audio products. These are among the best wireless headphones to be heard today, as easily as models from some custom-made brands like Bowers & Wilkins and Cambridge Audio.

Sony’s new flagship wireless headphones are wonderful. They cut off outside noise better than all competitors, and have enough battery power for cross-country flights. But in the end, they don’t work well for those with smaller ears. It’s a staggering number of people asking me about headphones, and it’s enough to justify a higher level.

For larger ears, the WF-1000XM4 is the best option for noise removal on the market. For others, AirPods Pro or Galaxy Buds will probably be more appropriate.
