Rolly Romero has been left out of the December 5 Gervonta “Tank” pay show with Davis. A spokesman for Showtime confirmed the news and stated that a replacement opponent will line up as Davis remains in his shop window.

The news comes after several women appeared to denounce allegations of sexual assault against Romero. As the alleged victims continued to share their stories, it became increasingly difficult for Romero to continue in a prominent position as an opponent of the main paid event.

The decision to withdraw Romero from the fight means that there will be no angry match between the two men and an acceptable b side will have to be aligned. Romero released a brief statement confirming the news on his social media.

“Although the allegations against me are completely false and I will prove it through the judicial process, I accept that it is for the good of all involved not to participate in the next payment ceremony. Once my name is cleared, he will return to the ring as soon as possible.”

Isaac Cruz and Gary Russell Jr. have been the names raised as Davis ’potential opponent, Cruz seems to be the main candidate to get the call.

Davis is in his legal hot water. First, in February 2020, video evidence appeared that Davis had physically assaulted his ex-girlfriend. Then, in March 2021, Davis was charged with 14 felonies for allegedly participating in an alleged assault. The trial is scheduled for March 2022.

Davis won in June against Mario Barrios, who had to fight a bigger opponent to win the WBA second division title in the junior weight class. He is also a WBA graduate in lightweight.
