TOKYO (Reuters) – The Bank of Japan will consider buying green bonds as part of a joint effort by Asian central banks to boost the region’s bond market, a source familiar with the matter said.

The BOJ will make purchases through the “Asia Bond Fund,” a board of directors of the Central Bank of East Asia and the Pacific (EMEAP) that was established in 2005, the source said.

The move will be among the measures the BOJ will take to tackle climate change, which will be published later this month due to the sensitivity and anonymity of the sources.
