Israeli warplanes continued to strike the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Wednesday, according to local media reports, flattening residential buildings and killing at least four Palestinians.
The latest blows killed four other Palestinians by Israeli forces and occupied protests and a historic general strike in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, killing four other Palestinians.
The strike was called in solidarity with the Palestinians who bombed Gaza in Israel.
At least 220 Palestinians, including 63 children, have been killed in Gaza, injuring about 1,500 Palestinians since the latest violence erupted on May 10.
Twelve people in Israel have been killed, including two children, and at least 300 Israelis have been injured.
Despite the escalation of violence – now in its tenth day – diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas-ruled Hamas in Gaza have not made much progress.
The United States continued to prevent the UN Security Council from issuing a joint joint statement on the end of enemies, telling diplomats that a public statement would not help ease tensions.
France, however, said it was working with Israel’s neighbors, Egypt and Jordan, on a new ceasefire resolution.
China has said it is “in favor” of the French proposal.

A past journalist was killed in Gaza
A fourth Palestinian was killed in Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip, according to local media.
Yusef Abu Hussein was a radio journalist, according to Al-Aqsa Voice, the Wafa news agency and the Shehab news agency.

Israeli warplanes hit Gaza, killing three Palestinians
Israel continued to bomb the Gaza Strip when dawn broke on Wednesday, local media reported, hitting the headquarters building in Gaza City and killing at least three Palestinians.
The Wafa news agency reported that three others were also injured.

Palestinian armed groups also continued to fire rockets at Israel.
An AFP photographer reported streaks of light in the sky late Tuesday as Israel’s air defense system intercepted rockets.
The UN chief has called for humanitarian funding for Gaza
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on the international community to ensure adequate funding for global humanitarian operations in Gaza.

Earlier, UN humanitarian chief Mark Lowcock called on Israel to grant Gaza “unhindered humanitarian access”.
“Gaza crossings need to be opened and thus maintained to include essential and humanitarian supplies, including supplies for basic services and a halt to the expansion of COVID-19,” it said in a statement.

Palestinian rallies in New York, Boston
Hundreds of protesters gathered across the street from the Israeli consulate in New York City in Israel to denounce the Israeli bombing of Gaza.
