WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Three Texas state lawmakers, who fled to Washington DC to stop the Republican-backed election law, tested positive for COVID-19, the Texas State House Democratic Caucus said in a statement Saturday.
Three Texas lawmakers have been vaccinated against coronavirus, but have tested positive in the past 24 hours, the document says.
Texas State Representative Ron Reynolds, who traveled to Washington among Democrats, told MSNBC on Saturday that the positive results of the test are for prudence. “We are taking these positive affirmations very seriously,” Reynolds said. “We’re following all the CDC guidelines and … we’re going to make sure we don’t reveal anyone.”
The U.S. COVID-19 case has risen in the past week, with new cases rising by 70% and deaths by 26%.
The Texas delegation met last week with Vice President Kamala Harris and Democratic leaders in Congress, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, CBS News reported Saturday.
