The U.S. is reducing the possibility of reducing buprenorphine, a drug that contributes to opioid craving by recording overdose deaths.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announces new regulations to make it easier to prescribe medications that cure those who persist opioid dependence.

The guidelines announced on Tuesday mean that doctors and other health care workers will not need more hours of training to prescribe buprenorphine, a golden drug that helps with desire. And they no longer have to refer patients to counseling services.

Regina LaBelle, senior director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, said in a press conference that the U.S. sees a record number of overdose deaths “most deaths this year dose over opioids, especially illegally manufactured fentanyl ”.

Deaths from U.S. drug overdose have increased in the coronavirus pandemic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 90,000 drug-related deaths in the 12 months ending September, the highest number ever recorded in a single year. There is no data for 2020 yet, and the figures are preliminary.

According to the lost guidelines, prescribers can treat up to 30 patients at a time with the medication. It comes in a pill or film that dissolves under the tongue. It costs about $ 100 a month. The most common version of buprenorphine is Suboxone.

Stricter conditions will be maintained for prescribers who want to care for more than 30 patients at a time.

Buprenorphine helps a patient from a powerful analgesic or an illegal opioid like heroin to an opioid-based medication.

Doctors, nurses, medical assistants, certified midwives, and other types of nurses may prescribe buprenorphine without prior special training.

The Trump administration tried to make a similar change in its last days, but it would only apply to doctors.

Prescription requirements are the legislation of 2000 to prevent over-access to medicines with potential misuse.
