Selahaddin was brought to Turkey by agents of the National Intelligence Agency, Turkish media reported.
Turkish agents have captured the nephew of US Muslim leader Fethullah Gulen in a foreign operation and taken him to Turkey, where he is being prosecuted.
Selahaddin Gulen, accused of being a member of a terrorist organization in Turkey, was caught in an operation by Turkey’s national spy agency MIT, Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported on Monday.
The report did not say where they were captured or when they returned to Turkey. Selahaddin was believed to live in Kenya.
On May 6, a Kenyan court banned the arrest and extradition of Selahaddin to Turkey, according to legal documents seen by the AFP news agency.
The court also ordered the return of his passport and said he should be allowed to return to the United States.
Selahaddin, who was given a red note by Interpol at the request of Turkey, arrived in Nairobi on October 17, 2020, and was arrested two days later before being released on bail. His lawyer was not available for comment.
His case is the latest in a series of forced repatriations of people linked to Gulen’s movement, blamed on the Turkish government’s failed coup attempt in 2016.
Gulen, a former ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who currently lives in the United States, has denounced the allegations.
Turkey has designated its network as a terrorist group, and has named it the Fethullahist Terror Organization or FETO.
In May, Erdogan announced that an important member of Gulen’s network had been caught but did not provide details.
