UEFA Champions League football final shifted from Istanbul to Porto Coronavirus pandemic News

The English Champions League final will be held in Porto with 12,000 fans from Chelsea and Manchester City, UEFA has confirmed.

The May 29 demonstration was taken from Istanbul to the 50,000-capacity Estadio do Draga after England imposed tougher restrictions on a trip to Turkey, which would prevent fans from flying.

“Fans have had to suffer for more than 12 months without being able to see their teams live and reaching the Champions League final is the culmination of the club’s football,” said UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin he said in a note.

The UEFA president said Turkish authorities had been “reliable partners” in UEFA and had organized a number of events in previous years with “great success”.

“I look forward to being in Istanbul and Turkey in the near future for the Champions League final and many other events.”

City coach Pep Guardiola said Turkey preferred the home of midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, whose grandfather comes from Balikesir south of Istanbul.

“I had the pleasure of going to Istanbul, but since I was a football player in Barcelona I have never had the opportunity to go there, not even in the Champions League,” he said at a press conference.

Portuguese Cabinet Minister Mariana Vieira da Silva said in a press conference that a set of rules has been set for fans who have gone to the finals.

“Those who come to the Champions League final will come and go the same day, after the test, in a bubble state, on charter flights.

“There will be two fan zones and from there they will switch to the stadium and from the stadium to the airport, with less than 24 hours in Portugal,” he said.
