Nine of the 28 Palestinians killed in Gaza in the past 24 hours as a result of Israeli airstrikes.

There are at least nine children among dozens of Palestinian attacks targeted at the Gaza Strip killed by Israeli airstrikes in the past 24 hours.

Cross-border violence in the weeks following the escalating tensions in Jerusalem, which erupted on Monday, is the worst the volatile region has experienced in years.

Salameh Marouf, head of the Gaza-based government intelligence office, told Al Jazeera: “The Israeli occupation has carried out more than 56 airstrikes against the Gaza Strip, where more than 120 missiles have been used against civilian targets.”

He added that Israel “intentionally targeted service facilities, such as those near the desalination facilities in northern Gaza, that are out of service.”

Airstrikes and rocket attacks took place in the last days after the violent repression of Israel in the temple area known as the Jewish temple in Jerusalem and the noble sanctuary for Muslims.

Tensions have erupted in the city, in the occupied West Bank and in Gaza during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan amid growing anger over the forced expulsion of Palestinians from the occupied houses of East Jerusalem in lands claimed by Jewish colonists.

“An Israeli missile struck the apartment in our apartment building. Then another missile hit the other side of the apartment. People started screaming,” said Luai Humaid, one of the residents of the Al-Jundi residence tower that was the target of an Israeli air strike on Monday.

“We went upstairs and found two dead and many injured people. The situation is out of control. I hope to get some peace of mind. I’m worried about kids feeling scared, ”he said.

Muhammad Subih, Amira Subuh, a 57-year-old sister, was killed in an Israeli airstrike, along with her 17-year-old son Abdulrahman, told Al Jazeera: “My sister and her son were killed while they were sleeping. They did nothing. They were targeted without any warning. We had to get their bodies out of the rubble. ”

Yousef Subih told Abdulrahman’s brother Al Jazeera that his father was killed in the 2003 Israeli bombing.

“Today, they killed my mother. Israel wants to terrify us through airstrikes. They don’t care about the elderly or the disabled. ”

Israeli forces continued to bomb the territory on Tuesday morning, targeting sites in Khan Younis, al-Bureij refugee camp and al-Zaitoun district.

At least three civilians were killed at dawn after an Israeli warplane headed home to the al-Shati refugee camp.

“Seven civilian facilities were targeted, including about two schools and a COVID quarantine center,” Marouf told Al Jazeera.

Ashraf al-Qidra, a spokesman for the Gaza Ministry of Health, told Al Jazeera that the ministry is also making an emergency plan to deal with the injuries in the COVID cases in the coastal enclave.
