VATICAN CITY (Reuters) – A Vatican judge on Saturday ordered the prosecution of 10 people, including an Italian cardinal, for alleged financial crimes such as embezzlement, money laundering, fraud, extortion and abuse of office.
Defendants include Cardinal Angelo Becciu, who was released by Pope Francis last year, a former head of the Vatican’s financial intelligence unit, and two Italian brokers who were involved in the Vatican’s purchase of the building in London’s luxury area.
