Kavaliauskas (22-1-1, 18 KOs) may not have gotten Hooker’s highest career, but for Ortiz he is a remarkable measuring stick.

Kavaliauskas fought Terence Crawford, one of the best pound-pound fighters, in December 2019, where he finished in the ninth round. After beating Hooker, Ortiz said he was ready to shoot for a world title and was angled with respect for the fight against Crawford.

Winning against Kavaliauskas will provide an individual comparison between Ortiz and Crawford and can bring Ortiz one step closer to his goal.

“I would love to have a title fight, but it depends on when and also [Crawford and Porter] fight ” Ortiz said in an interview with BoxingScene. “I don’t feel like Crawford is the kind of fighter who comes home immediately ready for the next one. He’s a fighter twice a year. He might win another one before he gets to him. I’m not really sure what their plan is.

“For now, all the attention is on the Mean Machine. After that, we can talk about the future, but if all goes well and I win (Saturday), I know I want to fight again this year.”
