WBA dismisses Judge Gloria Martinez Rizzo for disputed scorecard and found racist tweets

After turning into a weird box for the fight between Mykal Fox and Gabriel Maestre last Saturday, Judge Gloria Martinez Rizzo continued to be in the main spotlight when the racist tweets of the past were clarified. Now, the WBA has said it is suspending Rizzo for the situation, according to association president Gilberto Mendoza.

Despite Fox’s opinion that he deserved to win the provisional WBA welterweight championship, Maestre unanimously decided the victory. The most notable of the three official scoring cards was that of Rizzo, who gave a confusing 117-110 card in favor of Maestre. Rizzo was also awarded the WBA’s 2019 “female judge of the year”.

The WBA tweet labeled Rizzo as his award-winning recipient on his Twitter account, prompting fans to extract tweets from recent years after the decision. These tweets included various racisms aimed at black celebrities, including Michelle Obama and LeBron James.

“We saw that his score was wrong even though we decided unanimously,” Mendoza said he told ESPN. “He made those comments in the past – maybe the WBA will kick him out.”

The trial was just one part of the WBA-related issues. Rizzo is married to Ricardo Rizzo, a WBA-linked promoter and matchmaker. Maestre, a WBA fighter, also had a WBA officer working in his corner.

In addition, it was noticed that Fox’s corners were illegally taped to Master’s gloves. When he testified before the fight, the judge forced Maestre to fix the tape in the corner, asking how the gloves were accepted in that situation.
