Bart, my friend Kath (of twilight fame) and I was wearing some old photos of us at parties for about twenty years short dresses and black shorts.
“We didn’t appreciate how we looked when we were smaller,” he said. “We were busy lamenting.”
(Remember that quote from Nora Ephron? “Oh, how I regret not wearing a bikini all year when I was 26”)
He was right, then we didn’t appreciate it. But, I was thinking, now we don’t appreciate it! We will think about it one day back in these days and wanting.
After all, humans do beautiful. We have sparkling eyes and curved ears like little shells. We have elegant toes and round bellies and two feet that carry us around. We have tattoos and lipstick and smiles and wheelchairs. Beauty deepens with age. He is the clearest person in the world to me a white-haired woman with wrinkled hands and watery eyes.
