Ebrahim Raisi is the tough head of justice in Iran he achieved a complete victory in the country’s presidential election, the supreme leader’s support pushed Tehran to the top civilian position and saw the lowest turnout in the history of the Islamic Republic.
Raisi won 61.95% of the vote in Friday’s election, with 48.8 percent of the vote.
Raisi, 60, will take office in August, replacing moderate President Hassan Rouhani, who was not allowed by the constitution, to run for a third consecutive term.
It will take power at a critical moment as it seeks to save Iran from its troubled nuclear deal with major powers and free itself from the sanctions on US sanctions that have caused a sharp downturn in the economy.
Raisi’s election, which was punished by the United States for human rights violations, turned into a coronation after he was seen incapable of presenting his strongest competitors.

“When the new government takes office (in early August), we will continue to cooperate and fully cooperate with the elected official for the next 45 days,” Rouhani told state media.

Amnesty International
Agnes Callamard, head of the human rights group, said Raisi had called for an investigation into Raisi’s “crimes against humanity” after winning the election.”.
“Ebrahim Raisi is reminded that instead of investigating the murder, forced disappearance and torture for crimes against humanity, he has risen to the presidency, with impunity prevailing in Iran,” he posted on Twitter.
“We continue to demand that Ebrahim Raisi be investigated for his involvement in past and committed crimes under international law, including states with universal jurisdiction.”
The result #Iran “elections” could be predicted. But still, that #EbrahimRaisi instead of being investigated for murder, forced disappearance and torture, and has come to the presidency instead of being investigated for crimes against humanity, it is a raw reminder that Iran’s impunity prevails.

The path to Raisi’s presidency was “repression and unfair elections,” said HRW’s Middle East deputy director Michael Page.
“Being the head of Iran’s repressive judiciary, Raisi oversaw some of the most serious crimes in Iran’s recent history, as they deserve more investigation and accountability than high-ranking elections.”
