Increased legal threats against Donald Trump and his business empire have led New York’s attorney general to point out that a lengthy investigation by these entities could lead to possible criminal – and not just civil – condemnation.

The investigation is being led by Letitia James, the state’s attorney general two judicial lines Trump and his business. The other is done by Cyrus Vance’s office Manhattan District Attorney, is usually based on non-civil matters.

A James spokesman said: “We have informed the Trump Organization that investigations into the organization are no longer of a civilian nature. We are actively investigating the Trump organization as a criminal along with the Manhattan DA.”

In a lengthy statement, Trump said the polls are “the largest political witch hunt in U.S. history.”

“There is no more corrupt than an investigation into a crime,” the former president said, as he calculated the investigation to prevent another offer for the White House.

The Trump Institution did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The focus of the probes, according to information on the subject, is whether the company inflates the value of some property to secure bank loans, while minimizing tax cuts.

The investigation revealed that President Michael Cohen’s interim personal attorney in 2018 made a speech to pay money for women who said they had an extramarital affair with Trump. Cohen, he was sentenced sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to several federal charges, he told Congress he later returned Trump’s funds registered as legal fees.

One person who reported on James ’probe said the focus on criminal matters does not yet rule out that it could lead to civil charges.

Both offices have recently received support from Allen Weisselberg’s ex-daughter, Trump’s longtime chief financial officer.

It is not uncommon for the attorney general’s office to notify a party when a civil matter is focused on a criminal investigation, said Michael Bachner, a New York defense attorney.

Bachner said it was not clear whether James and Vance were pursuing the same or separate criminal charges.
