The agreement, signed on Thursday, is part of an improvement in Israel’s air force capabilities and includes the option to purchase six more helicopters, the ministry said in a statement.

He said the first helicopters would arrive in Israel in 2026. Brigadier General Shimon Tsentsiper, the chief of air force material, told Israeli Army Radio that the planes to deliver the fuel promised on Thursday would not be delivered until 2025.

He said Israel was trying to advance the delivery of the KC-46, and eventually wanted four of them.

Israeli media have speculated that refueling planes could be crucial to an air strike that has long been threatened at Iran’s nuclear facilities. Tsentsiper said the current air force’s fuel supply capabilities were sufficient for its missions.
