MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexican carrier Aeromexico said on Tuesday that a majority of its creditors had approved the company’s restructuring plan as part of a failed bid.

Aeromexico reported in a statement that 86% of its creditors, who ended voting on January 7 and voted, backed the plan.

“The end of the voting process and the strong support of the company’s creditors are an important milestone in Aeromexico’s restructuring process,” the company said.

Aeromexico is also in a strong position to “get the plan approved,” the company added.

Shares of Aeromexico, in the midst of a pandemic that plagued the failure of Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the United States last year, have seen a tremendous amount of speculation in recent weeks about its bankruptcy proceedings.

A meeting of the company’s shareholders will be held on Friday, and they will discuss the restructuring plan. The court is due to consider ratifying the plan on January 27, Aeromexico said.
