TOKYO (Reuters) – Haruhiko Kuroda, the governor of the Bank of Japan, said on Monday that it was important to provide financing to industries that need a long-term transition to greener operations.

“While responding to climate change is an urgent priority, completing full decarbonisation will take considerable time,” Kuroda said in a speech at the Europlace online forum in Paris.

“To promote the decarbonisation of the economy as a whole, it is important to provide stable support for structural change in sectors and industries where it will be difficult to achieve decarbonisation in the short term,” he said.
