Fantasy author Django Wexler he is a lifelong Star Wars fan and has always wanted to write a story set in that universe. He got the wish last year when the story “Amara Kel’s Rules TIE Fighter Pilot Survival (Probably)” appeared in the anthology The empire is attacking: from a certain point of view.
“The idea is to show the perspectives of the characters in these non-mainstream characters,” says Wexler in section 474. Guide to the Geek Galaxy podcast. “I was very happy to be a part of it. It was a fun challenge. ”
Wexler’s story is based on the lives of TIE fighter pilots, who are usually treated as faceless cannon fodder in Star Wars movies. “I really got into it X-Hing Miniatures game“It’s just a game of X-wings and TIE fighters that you play on the table, and that spread a bit into the habits, so I wanted to immerse myself in a story,” says Wexler. “So when they told me to join Empire Strikes Back, that’s what came out to me as a TIE fighter pilot story. “
The film depicts TIE fighters being incredibly irresponsible, often immersed in tight spaces and colliding with asteroids, cruisers and colliding with each other, which makes Wexler think that TIE fighter pilots must endure intense propaganda. “I really wanted to see something like that and get someone’s point of view with that bull,” he says. “So his rules are very important: ‘Let them be the other guys who fly to the asteroids, if you want to experience a tour of duty.’
Wexler hopes his stories will make viewers think that most TIE fighter pilots are probably unfortunate soldiers with families they love. “No one really wants to be reminded that all the guys who shoot, punch or throw a bridge at these action movies are people,” he says. “That’s why when the rebels are attacking the Death Star we can see all the faces of the rebels and all the TIE fighters are wearing masks. Let’s have this fantasy of inconsequential violence.”

Django Wexler about his “REAL” story:
“That started life Sailor Moon fan fiction. It was a story I wrote in the fan fiction era, and I shouldn’t say that a real fictional word didn’t become this story because I sat down and rewrote it. … A person in the real world thinks that he sees a game / TV show in the real world in his blood. But the basic concept and sharp ending are from that old story. I generated a bit of it, so it’s not based on a particular piece of fiction. So it was a good example of putting an old story back together, and not just copying a single word from one document to another, just taking another crack at one concept and making it better, I hope. “
