I think we can all agree on that summer more than ever we are happy to do any activity outdoors with friends and family. So if you’re lucky enough to have a small patio or outdoor space, take advantage! Although small, there are some ideas and style tips for designing small patios to maximize outdoor footage. Yes, it is possible to create an elegant space with limited square meters.

Don’t you believe me? Continue reading to learn some decorating tips I recently focused on designing this small patio space. In the photos before and after you can see how some throw pillows, pendant lights and material materials can transform any space.

Go to my best six small patio design ideas and buy a look:

Tip 1: The survey says!

Before you start designing it is important to reflect for a minute on how you will use your patio space. Some people love the living room for an evening cocktail and others prefer the place to dine al fresco, or maybe you like a bit of both ?! Decide on the essential features and start designing from there.

Tip 2: Create fields

Creating zones in your space is especially important in small spaces. This will help make your area feel bigger and more functional. I always like to choose smaller furniture than a large sofa or a living room chair. This will give the patio area more variety.

Having a multi-purpose outdoor patio can make you feel like you’ve gained extra room and space for entertainment. I like to secure a small food serving table, a round bistro table with two chairs (and two extras if you need them!) And a small love seat or a comfortable chair for overflowing. Choose furniture items that can be duplicated as other items, as well as storage.

Tip 3: Use different textures

It’s time to dump her and move on. When it comes to furniture pieces, don’t feel like you have to match all the wood grain or sofa cushions. It’s okay to change that! In fact, it will help break up the space. It also seems challenging to paste an overall color palette like brown teak or shades of gray and weave with textures like plain, cane or metallic accents. I like to use a mix of indoor and outdoor furniture to make the space elevated.

Tip 4: Place the area on the floor.

Literally! The outside carpet is a MUST. Adding a great rug will make the space warm and cozy. The rug adds comfort, an extra layer of personality and makes you feel like you’ve created an interior space on the outside.

Tip 5: Add Greenery

What is an outdoor space with little green space? If you have a patio or balcony in the apartment, the plants give the look of a garden that we all crave outside. I like to pick a variety of herbs like mint, rosemary and lavender to double the cocktail garnishes and flavor many summer dishes.

Tip 6: Create a personality

I love creating any space (indoor or outdoor) with a bit of personality. You can add your own style with pillowcases, bowls and lighting. If you want to take things to the next level, think of items like an external Bluetooth speaker or wireless projector if you have an empty wall to use as a screen!
