China’s population grew at the slowest pace in decades from 10 years to 2020, according to census data released on Tuesday.
A decade-long census completed in December showed that by 2020 its population had risen to 1.41 billion compared to 1.4 billion euros a year earlier, the National Statistics Office said.
But the figures also showed an average annual growth rate of 0.53% in 2010, compared to 0.57% in the previous decade – the lowest rate since the People’s Republic of China began collecting census data in 1953.
The The Financial Times reported last month the Chinese government revealed the first year-on-year decline in the 60-year-old population in census data. People around the UN said the initial population was less than € 1.4 billion, but that it had been revised.
