Cover Laptop 4 (15-inch, AMD) Review: Battery Champion

However, compared to other high-end laptops on the market today, Surface performance is pretty much the middle ground. The use of the older Ryzen 4000 series chips is a strike against this, when there is now no Ryzen 5000 series. I’ve been testing several laptops with Ryzen’s latest chips, and they’re faster across the board and get better battery life.
Significant surfaces
Where the surface gains the most time is design, build quality and display. I love the 3: 2 ratio. The property offers more vertical screens, which means less scrolling to focus on what you’re reading. The native resolution of 2,496 x 1,664 pixels isn’t a sharp 4K like the Dell XPS 15, but it’s considerably better than the “Full HD” 1080p screens found on many 15-inch laptops. In terms of pixel density, it is very close to “Quad HD” (2,560 x 1,440 pixels but on a 16: 9 screen).
It is very sharp, has clear text and great colors. The 15-inch version that works with Ryzen also uses AMD’s FreeSync technology. This allows for refresh rate adjustments across the screen, making for very smooth animations and almost no heavy movement. This is a feature you often find on gaming machines, but it’s rare on consumer-oriented devices. It may seem like a small thing, but after using the Surface Laptop for 4 weeks, it was painful to return to the screens without it.
The big 4 win of the rest of the laptop is the battery life. Previous models had difficulty overcoming full-time work, but this is no problem. In the standard analysis where we drain the battery (watching 75 percent of the 1080p video stored locally), I managed 9.25 hours, which is one of the best results for a 15-inch machine. In real-world use, it was even better managed, in most cases lasting less than 11 hours.
The weak point here is the keyboard. It feels weirdly spread out. The keys are sponges and they don’t seem to have a quick bounce from competitors like the Dell XPS 15.. I almost never see this complaint mentioned anywhere, so I’m the only person who uses the key. (It’s possible to map a small menu key to control using third-party software, so this isn’t an inappropriate deal.) The trackpad, like previous Surface Laptops, is Apple’s best trackpad I’ve never used.
If you want a 15-inch laptop for the extra screens it offers, and you don’t have a big plan (you don’t edit videos or games), the Surface Laptop 4 is a good choice. For most, the basic $ 1,299 version with the Ryzen 7, 8 gigabyte RAM, and 256GB SSD is enough to watch Netflix, edit documents, and browse the web. What sets prices apart from laptops, and certainly cheaper, is the construction of quality.
But if you’re looking for a portable workstation for video editing, gaming platforms, or other high-performance tasks, there are better options available, as Dell XPS 15.
