There are some sure signs that winter has arrived: the moment you finally turn on the heat in your home or reach for a blanket to warm up on the couch, and the foam of your coffee order becomes a state of festive latté. A beacon that has never failed to signal the start of the season? Yes, dry skin. And not only dehydrated (this is really a different thing), but a flaky dryness that removes any shine from my skin. It’s a sign of the season, but it also serves as a less subtle reminder that it’s time to move on to a winter skin care routine.

Essential components of a winter skin care routine
While summer is everything lightening things up, cooler temperatures require more moisturizing ingredients to block moisture and protect the skin.
- Hyaluronic acid. “This is great for long-term immediate hydration,” Dr. Devgan added. “It gives the skin an extra collagen while blocking moisture.”
- Niacinamide. One of the two main forms of vitamin B3, component of the hero It soothes inflammation, supports collagen production and helps create a healthy skin barrier, even to keep your face shiny even in harsh temperatures.
- Ceramics. Ceramics lipids help to form a natural barrier for our skin. Topical filling of the ingredient with a moisturizer can cause all the differences for people with dry skin, eczema or psoriasis.
- Bend over the cream. Consider replacing your lightweight product with a mild or creamy cleanser. Your moisturizer can also use a rich cream innovation.
