Hamas military wing chief Mohammed Deif has warned that Israel will pay a high price if attacks on Sheikh Jarrah continue.

The armed wing of the Hamas Palestinian resistance movement has warned Israel of attacks on Palestinian residents occupied in East Jerusalem, and said Israel will pay a “high price” for its actions.

“Qassam brigades will not stand idly by in the face of attacks in the Sheikh Jarrah district,” Brigade commander Mohammed Deif said in a statement Tuesday night.

“They will pay a high price if the attacks on our village in the Sheikh Jarrah district do not stop immediately,” he said, adding that developments are closely followed.

Deif, who has been on Israel’s list for years, praised Sheikh Jarrah’s “firm people” because they are facing forced relocations immediately from his home.

Israeli forces searched the neighborhood on Tuesday night. Neighbors and solidarity protesters were sprayed with sharp water, chemically improved sanitation water, and physically assaulted.

Several Palestinians were arrested, including Tala Obeid, Omar al-Khatib and Mahmoud Nabil al-Kurd, whose families have been displaced from occupied homes in East Jerusalem. Al-Kurd was released along with another Palestinian on Wednesday morning, but the arrest of local activist al-Khatib has been extended.

At least 20 Palestinians were injured in a clash on Monday when Israeli police took to the streets in solidarity with Sheikh Jarrah.

A court in the Israeli district of East Jerusalem upheld the decision to evict six Palestinian families from their homes in favor of Israeli settlers. The same court ruled that seven other Sheikh Jarrah families must be released from their homes by August 1.

Since 1956, a total of 37 Palestinian families have lived in 27 homes in the neighborhood – including 28 refugee families who were ethnically displaced from their homes in Jaffa and Haifa in 1948.

However, illegal Jewish settlers have tried to push abroad on the basis of a law passed by the Israeli parliament in 1970.

According to Palestinians, the houses were set up in 1956 in accordance with an agreement with the Jordanian government – then in its area of ​​competence – and the UN refugee agency UNRWA.

In recent years, Palestinians have been forcibly relocated from three homes in the neighborhood following Israeli court rulings.
