Miami Open 2021: Serena Williams has become the last star to emerge from the tournament

Serena Williams has been added to the list of tennis stars who will not be taking part in the upcoming Miami Open. Williams said he has just had oral surgery as a reason to play in the next tournament.

Williams added that he hopes it will be a Miami Open tournament and has expressed disappointment at the need to fail.

“Miami is a special tournament for me because it’s my home. I’m sad I won’t be able to see the huge fans this year, but I’ll be back soon.” he said at a rally on Sunday.

The tennis icon, who lives in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, has won the tournament eight times more than any other player. The last victory he won in Miami was in 2015.

James Blake, director of the Miami Open, said Williams’ failure to participate is a great loss.

“We’re going to miss having Serena at this year’s tournament and I know it was a very difficult decision for her,” she said in a note. “He’s won more than any player in history at the Miami Open. He has a home here in South Florida, and he’s always a fan.”

Tennis star friends Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are also sitting out of the Miami Open. Djokovic directly cited COVID restrictions for a non-participating reason.

“I decided to spend this precious time at home with my family,” Djokovic said in a note. “With all the restrictions, I have to find a balance in the time I spent on tour and at home.”

Nadal and Federer said health problems are the reason they will not play in the tournament.

It is being held at the Miami Open Hard Rock Stadium from March 24 to April 4.
