DoorDash job vacancies show a plan to launch in Germany

[ad_1]

The food delivery app is preparing to launch DoorDash in Germany, the first fast-paced attempt to be a U.S. market leader in a crowded European delivery app market.

The company shared it 15 jobs trying to fill management, strategy and recruitment positions in Berlin on Monday. It is not yet clear when it intends to launch.

The move will follow Uber he told the Financial Times in April Uber Eats would take the food service to Germany “within a few weeks,” starting in Berlin.

Earlier this month, Delivery Hero (which sold its German business to Just Eat Takeaway in 2018) said it would be re-enter the country with its Foodpanda brand. The Finnish Wolt has also recently entered the market.

The new players will threaten to disrupt the historic dominance of Just Eat Takeaway, as the German market has been almost inherent in the last two years.

“The competition makes us stronger,” said Jitse Groen, CEO of Just Eat Takeaway, a tweet last week Reacting to the return of Delivery Hero.

DoorDash declined to comment on the jobs or the German company’s expansion plans. “We are constantly evaluating expansion opportunities because we aim to build more international presence,” he said.

DoorDash is expected to give a wider boost in Europe, including the UK. FT du previously reported the company was looking at targets for acquisition in Europe, while the German general manager’s job required someone who could “develop a game book” to get into other books “faster”.

It is unclear what working model DoorDash would use in Germany, where stricter employment laws mean that the concert worker it uses in the US will not be accepted.

One of the announced positions, for a head of political and government relations, requires a person who knows the “political and regulatory environment at Germany and at EU level”.

Last month, Uber told FT that Berlin’s food couriers would be used by fleet management companies, similar to cancer groups, hired by Uber and paying for each order. It is up to the fleet managers to decide how to retain and pay the staff.

DoorDash is the largest market for U.S. food delivery apps, with about 55 percent of the market nationwide, according to data from Edison Trends based on sales in the last week of April. Uber Eats has 31 percent and Grubhub will soon be the property Just Eat Takeaway, which is awaiting shareholder approval, has 13 percent.

DoorDash is increasingly supplying other types of goods. Last week he said about 7% of all orders are for comfort items, such as items, flowers or alcohol. In addition to picking it up from existing stores, 7-Eleven also offers a network of more than 25 “Dashmarts,” which allows couriers to send messages quickly.

If it wants to imitate this model in the German market, it will compete against the likes of Gorilla and Flink, two applications with a fast distribution in Berlin. Getir in Istanbul, a similar application, plans to launch in Berlin soon.
