(Reuters) – The NFL will re-evaluate its policies related to diversity, equity and inclusion, Commissioner Roger Goodell told clubs on Saturday that former Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores has filed a lawsuit against racial discrimination against the league.

Flores, who is Black, was released by the Dolphins last month after a season of record wins, saying he was emblematic of the treatment of black coaches while making up 70% of NFL players as part of the team’s staff positions. Black.

Goodell said he understood Flores’ concerns and added that they would not wait for the lawsuit to “review and change our strategies” if they were in line with the league’s commitment to diversity.

“We have made great efforts to promote diversity and have adopted many policies and programs that have brought about positive change in many areas,” Goodell wrote in a statement to Reuters and sent to all league staff and clubs.

“However, we have to admit that the results have been unacceptable, especially for the coaches.

“We will re-evaluate and review all policies, guidelines and initiatives related to diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as those related to gender.”

Currently, Black is the only coach in the NFL’s 32 teams.

Goodell added that they were taking on “outside experts” to assist in their review, also asking current players and coaches for their input.

“Our goal is simple: to make our efforts and clubs more effective, to achieve real and tangible results,” he added.

“We recognize the need to understand the experiences of many members of the NFL family so that everyone can have the opportunity and be treated with respect and dignity.”

Flores also said that refusing to throw away games to improve his chances of improving his chances at the football club ultimately cost him his job.

“We also take any issue with the integrity of NFL games seriously. These issues will be examined in depth and independently,” Goodell said.
