The Brazilian Bolsonaro is recovering, Reuters says will return to action “soon.”

SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who is undergoing hospital treatment for a dead intestine after a nearly fatal stabbing in 2018, said on Friday he hoped to be “back in action soon” as doctors have yet to release a date.

Bolsonaro, 66, has been in hospital since Wednesday when he traveled from Brazil to Sao Paulo to receive treatment related to 2018 knife complications. When she should have emergency surgery after initial concerns, doctors now say she is getting better, with less surgery.

His doctors said in a statement Friday afternoon that the president was recovering well, but had not been given a date to be released from the hospital.

Earlier on Friday, Bolsonaro tweeted a photo of himself, walking down a hospital corridor with a drop attached to his neck and looking sharp.

“Soon back to action, God willing!” He wrote. “We’ve done a lot, but we still have a lot to do for our Brazil!”

Bolsonaro said in a televised interview on Thursday that he could be out of the hospital on Friday.

On Thursday evening, the president’s doctors said Bolsonaro had had his gastric catheter removed and would start eating again on Friday.

Bolsonaro has had a number of health issues in his presidency, most notably as a result of long-term complications, after being stabbed to death in 2018 when he was stabbed with a campaign trail. He was also ill with COVID-19 last year.

Bolsonaro is in a weak political stance, as senators are investigating a corruption scandal over the purchase of coronavirus vaccines and are being criticized for treating the pandemic. COVID-19 has killed nearly 540,000 people in Brazil – the second most dead in the world after the United States.
