WASHINGTON (Reuters) – US Trade Representative Katherine Tai on Friday expressed strong support for Lithuania and the European Union over China’s “economic coercion” in a call with EU Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis, the USTR said in a statement.

The statement in favor of Lithuania is the second of its kind this week. In a call with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis on Wednesday, Taik stressed that the US is committed to engaging in “restrictive diplomatic and economic conduct” with the EU and its member states.

Lithuania is under pressure from China, claiming that it was democratically governed by Taiwan as its territory, with the island reversing a decision last year to open its de facto Vilnius embassy in its name.
