Cuomo’s lawyer, Attorney General Letitia James, is asking Reuters to challenge him

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Andrew Cuomo’s lawyer on Thursday called on New York State Attorney General Letitia James to refrain from any decision on sexual harassment against the former governor, saying her governor’s campaign sparked a conflict of interest.
“His office must refuse him while he is campaigning to be governor,” Cuita attorney Rita Galvin said, noting James ’campaign announcement that the Albany County Sheriff’s Office accused Cuomo of a sex crime a day ago.
“During those months her sentence was completely jeopardized by her political motivations,” Galvin said, referring to the weeks leading up to the publication of a report by James’s office that Cuomo had sexually harassed 11 women.
The Attorney General’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
James, 63, announced on Oct. 29 that he would challenge Democrat Kathy Hochul, a former lieutenant governor, who replaced Cuomo when he resigned on Aug. 24 after more than 10 years in office.
James said a five-month independent investigation concluded that Cuomo had conduct that violated several federal and state laws.
