John McAfee, a cybersecurity and software businessman who was found dead Wednesday in a Spanish prison cell, the country’s top court ruled that he should be extradited to the U.S. on charges of escaping millions of dollars in taxes.

A Catalan justice official said McAfee’s body had been found in Brians prison, south of Barcelona. The Catalan justice department added in a note that his death was a suicide and that prison services tried and failed to resurrect him after he was found in his cell.

On the same day, the Spanish national court ruled that McAfee should be extradited to the United States “for tax offenses related to 2016, 2017 and 2018.”

They took McAfee surveillance in Spain he was in October and in pretrial detention. In November, the U.S. embassy made a formal request for his extradition. U.S. authorities complained that McAfee earned more than $ 10 million between 2014 and 2018, but did not pay taxes, and used the pilots to hide its wealth and revenue.

According to the U.S. Justice Department, McAfe, which created the anti-virus software company that bears his name, hid millions of dollars in revenue from U.S. tax authorities for promoting cryptocurrencies and selling rights to his life story.

In a major testimony that discussed his political intentions at length last week, McAfe, who previously asked for a Libertarian party nomination for the U.S. presidency, told the Spanish court he paid millions of dollars in taxes and his companies paid billions. He said U.S. tax authorities were corrupt.

He added that for someone his age (who is nearly 76 years old), he would certainly spend his entire life in prison if he was extradited to the U.S., and asked the court to “consider those questions”. But the prosecutor in the case complained that his political activity was excessive, and that instead, “it’s a rebellious tax, a millionaire who doesn’t want to pay taxes – in every country, including the US.”

The court also failed to prove McAfee’s health concerns, saying that if convicted “he is not facing a life sentence that will deprive him of his life sentence.”

McAfee was a highly successful innovative software a decade ago, and sell its cyber security to the McAfee Group for $ 7.6 billion to Intel. He fled when his neighbor was killed in 2012 Belize. Although he was named a person of interest in the year research, were never charged in connection with the Belize case.

In 2019, McAfee said he fled the U.S. on his sailboat because he had criminal tax charges.
