More U.S. retailers are releasing the mask rule for fully embedded customers

Starbucks and Target are the latest major U.S. companies to re-examine mask policy when the country’s health agency said last week that fully embedded people no longer need to wear them indoors.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Thursday that fully embedded people can do it let them wear face covers in most internal and external settings, unless required by state or business.

With the release of the restrictions, businesses have struggled to rethink masking policies. Some major retail chains like Walmart, Costco and Trader Joe’s have removed the mask requirement for shoppers inserted over the weekend, while others, such as Macy’s large department stores, still hold mask orders.

Target said Monday that fully embedded customers and staff did not need to wear masks, but “they continue to strongly recommend covering their faces to customers and team members who are not fully embedded.”

As of Monday, fully embedded Starbucks customers can go without a mask if local law allows, the company said. At CVS, fully embedded customers will no longer need to wear masks, although pharmacy chain employees will continue to do so.

The CDC’s announcement means that businesses and buyers need to build trust, creating suspicion and anger. National Nurses United, the largest nurses ’union in the U.S., condemned the CDC’s decision, said executive director Bonnie Castillo,“ it does not protect public health and endangers the lives of patients, nurses and other workers across the country.

Several states in the United States have also relaxed their driving masks to comply with CDC updates, including Colorado and Pennsylvania. A few, such as Texas, had already abandoned mask requirements.
